Every Child Matters

Since 2013, Sept. 30 has also been recognized in Canada as . This began as a grassroots, Indigenous-led initiative to acknowledge the journeys of residential school survivors and their families, to remember those who did not survive, and to recognize that every child matters.

As Orange Shirt Day approaches on Sept. 30, the Manitoba government is supporting that promote awareness of the history and legacy of residential schools and encourage meaningful discussions on past and ongoing injustices. With schools closed on Sept. 30, мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û schools will be participating in various Orange Shirt Day activities on Thursday, Sept. 29.

Orange Shirt Day is an opportunity for First Nations, local governments, schools and communities to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come.
